More from Duxbury Reef State Marine Conservation Area, Near Bolinas, California

There is a long stretch of Agate Beach that Susan and I had not explored before today. We had decided that our next visit should be during a low tide so that we would have enough time to make it all the way to the end of the beach and back while the water was low.

In checking the tides app on my iPhone I saw that the the tide would be very low (-0.3 feet) at 3:00 PM today, so we headed over and arrived a little after 2:00. We spent about ninety minutes exploring a good portion of the beach.

There are a number of dead tree trunks lying about, and we speculate that at one time these trees were living happily up on the bluff about the beach, but alas, the bluff is steadily eroding, and every once in a while (apparently) a tree loses its grounding and tumbles down. The tree trunk in the first photo was my favorite for all of its twists and grooves.

In the second photo I show the green grasses that lie flat and matted while the water is low.
